Scheduled Board Meetings August 19th, 1 pm |
Board of DirectorsPresident Kindra Muntz worked at General Electric Company's Aircraft Engine Group for 18 years, and received their Managerial Award in 1990. She was a broker at Merrill Lynch in Boston for five years before retiring to Venice in 1997. Kindra spearheaded the purchase of land for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Venice (www.uucov.org) and, with Kym Elder, for IVMS. She worked with the City and County to complete the construction of Edmondson Road. Kindra is a graduate of Harvard University and Secretary of her Class of 1965 at Radcliffe. Most recently, she formed the Sarasota Alliance for Fair Elections (SAFE) (www.safevote.org) which helped pass a referendum in 2006 for paper ballots and mandatory audits to ensure verified elections for all voters. Vice President Nancy Stormer was a former aide/secretary at St. Mark's Preschool, Venice Elementary, Osprey Elementary, and registrar for Nokomis Elementary and Laurel Nokomis School for 28 years. After being retired for one year, she returned to the school setting, as registrar for a new charter school. Kym Elder asked for Nancy's help after the Sarasota County School Board granted her a charter to educate students in the Maria Montessori method. After five years at IVMS, Nancy retired again. She has been an active volunteer in retirement, at Instride Therapy in the office, Friday's Happy Hour in the afternoon and other events at Harbor Chase Assisted Living facility, and volunteering on Friday mornings at IVMS assisting office personnel. Treasurer Henry Bright joined the IVMS board in 2009. Henry Bright represented the Unitarian Church as a partner for the development of our neighboring properties. Henry was involved in the original development of school’s property along with a number of the church members as well as members of the school community. Henry, Kindra, and Kym worked closely together as we went through the annexation and rezoning process with the City of Venice. Henry has a background in finance, especially as an actuary in the insurance industry. He has been involved with the UU church and other community organizations. Henry’s experience in finances will add greatly to the experience of the board as it continues to move into these uncertain financial times. Secretary Marcella (Sally) Coyne is a parent of an IVMS graduate and was very active during her time as a parent at IVMS, supporting the school and its vision. Sally attended the University of Toledo and University of Virgin Islands, majoring in business administration with a minor in education. Sally has experience in the insurance industry as a co-owner of an insurance business in Venice. She has experience in office management and bookkeeping. Members Dr. Beverly Morrison In 1982, Beverly received her Ph.D. in reading instruction, educational psychology, and educational administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Beverly is a former educator, administrator, and district wide curriculum supervisor. She worked in Virginia, Wisconsin, and Iowa since 1962, retiring to Florida in 2002. Beverly is active with the Sarasota County library system and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Beverly was named Big Sister of the Year in 2010. She is also an adjunct faculty for George Mason University in Virginia, as well as president and board member of the Greater Washington Reading Council and Virginia State Reading Association.
