Upcoming Events

Principal’s Coffee Sarasota Campus - Melanie and Kym will host a principal’s coffee on Wednesday, May 15th from 8:15 to 9:30 AM. Please RSVP at the office or by calling us at 941-954-4999. 

Open House and Science Fair Venice CampusAn open house and science fair will be held at the Venice campus for upper elementary and middle school students on Thursday, May 9th. 

The schedule for the Open House will be:

  • 5:30 – 6:00PM - “Presentation”
    Addressing changes to upper elementary and middle school programs 
    (at UUCOV Church across the parking lot)
  • 6:15 – 7:15PM - “Science Fair”
  • (3rd & 4th grade), Class Presentations (K-2),
    * Middle School tours available

  • K-2 will have class presentations as we have had in the past.
  • LEs 13, 16 & 17 will have science related topics to present.

 

Arts Week - Our traditional way to celebrate the school year is through our celebration of creativity.  Monday is a holiday. Arts Week celebrations will be held the last week of school, which is May 28th – 31st for students. Students will participate in art and music activities, special guest artists and performers, and get a chance to perform for other students. It is a great way to have the school year come to a close.

Graduation Ceremonies - The 8th and 9th grade students will participate in graduation ceremonies on Thursday, May 30th.

Wacky Olympics - The PE Department sponsors our annual Wacky Olympics April 25th and 26th at both campuses.

FCAT Testing - April 15th to April 26th grades 3rd – 9th

8th Grade Philadelphia Trip - Our 8th grade students have just returned from a glorious week in Philadelphia. Welcome home! See photos on our Facebook page to see all of the fun!

Starry Night Out – Both evenings were fabulously successful this year as well in spite of the cold snap. Wednesday’s elementary school performance gave students a chance to perform in front of a crowd, many for the first time. The secondary performance included the debut of the IVMS String Ensemble as well as fantastic performances by solo performers and bands. Thanks to Ms. Angeline who coordinated a fine arts display of student word. A great time had by all!

Family Night at Sarasota Campus – Sarasota campus had a packed family night on March 28th. Students demonstrated materials to their families and older students displayed and described their science experiments to visitors. Thanks for all who came out!

IVMS After School Drama Presentation Venice Theater – Great performance  by almost 100 students! Thanks to Venice Theater and the IVMS After School Program for coordinating this event.

Jogathon - This event was held on both campuses. Students participated in jogging to raise funds for the school. Students were also able to participate in many other events coordinated by Ms. Whitney and Ms. Kathy B.  IVMS Families, thanks for your participation and support of our school!

Innovation Day - Was a smash success as IVMS secondary students invented, composed, and experimented on a multitude of projects. What amazing ideas were generated out of nothing in one day!

December – Winter Folk Festival - Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Kristin pulled it off again!! It was a fabulous time at the Sarasota campus, complete with snow slide, bounce house, class performances, and other fun events. Thanks to all parents and friends of the school who came out to join the fun!

 December- Spoken Word Night and Book Fair - Thanks to Ms. Lisa and Ms. Nancy for sponsoring this event. Many of our secondary students read original poetry as well as works from famous authors. The choir sang along with a few individual performances. Kudos to our students who bravely shared their tender truths with others. Not easy, we all know! Thanks to all who purchased books for various learning environments as well!

December – Venice Community Orchestra and Free Children’s Concert The Venice Community Orchestra performed for IVMS students as a kick off to the new strings program at the Venice campus. Ms. Kym joined the orchestra performance

as a budding cellist. The unusual partnership between Island Village and the Venice Community Orchestra will allow serious pianists, cellists, and violinists, as well as classical guitarists to perform along side of adult amateur and professional musicians in a genuine symphony orchestra. The Orchestra welcomes interested parents as well. The first violin class took place Wednesday, November 28th. It was a huge success! There are currently 18 violin students and 2 cello students. Thank you to all who have supported this new program for IVMS students! 

October -Fall Festival - The Fall Festival was a huge success this year raising over $5,000 for our learning environments. Thanks to all who attended!! Thanks to IVMS staff for supporting and contributing to the fun. A special thanks to Stephanie Welch and Kristin Calandra who organized the event. It was a great way to have both campuses come together for a fun-filled day! Many, many thanks to the parent volunteers who gave up part of their day to support our school! Proceeds went back to the school and learning environments for classroom supplies.

September – Cure Search Walk – This effort raised over $8,000 for the cause. Team Brianna turned out to be one of the biggest fundraisers of the event. Way to go! Thanks to Nancy Clarke for coordinating the event, which honored the passing of a cherished member of the IVMS community.

Peace honored – One Day of Peace - Both campuses held celebrations during the school day. See our Facebook page for photos.

September – Pajama Bingo was a smash hit with over 240 people attending from both campuses! Thanks to Stephanie Welch and Kristin Calandra for organizing this event to raise money for our learning environments. Thanks to everyone for attending and supporting our school. Over $2,000 raised for our learning environments!
